Will 2010 Go the 2009 Way?
As the lingerie industry is bracing itself for the new year ahead. Everyone is expectant how the new year will fare for them in business. Considering the lackluster year that 2009 was, everybody wants to play safe and see the growth would return to its heady days as in 2007-08.
Lace-n-Lingerie decided to get the feedback from the horses mouth that is the dealers themselves. We began by interviewing the top retailers in the lingerie business to find out how they fared in 2009 what 2010 has in store for them.
Quite to the contrary the perception that 2009 was a year that many would like to forget in a hurry, but some of the answers of our retailer friends frankly surprised even us. We present below are the findings of this unusual study.
How would you rate the year gone by?
50% Say 2009 has been a Good Year for them.
It is quite surprising that 50% of the respondents didn’t have any complaints what soever, considering that the country has emerged for its worst economic slowdown ever since the economic recovery began in the nineties.
One thing coming out from this survey is that things aren’t so bad as they are made out to be. The economy had taken a nosedive in the last quarter of 2008 up to the second quarter of 2010. But as the economy started recovering from May’2009 so also the sentiments of the trade, which is amply reflected in this survey. Also the optimism for 2010 clearly shows that the trade is ready for a great year ahead. |
